Challenge
Wind Tunnel Testing
The challenge was to create a prototype that resembled the actual design, so that it could be scaled and tested in a wind tunnel. There were time restraints and the drone was highly complex with many features.
Solution
Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS)
We received the file and combined all the components so that it could be printed in one piece. Over 265 components were printed at once. The drone prototype was printed on an EOS Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) machine in Titanium.
Results
Accurate Testing Data
The scale model of the drone was highly accurate and resembled all the characteristics of the actual design. Because of the quick turnaround, testing was able to start immediately to ensure their design met all the necessary requirements.
